Business Agility– December 27, 2011

A case in point is Yammer, the leading enterprise social network. It blends the freewheeling, granular communications of Twitter with the business controls of a formal content management system. Implemented properly across an organization, Yammer can help reduce operational inefficiencies, support geographically dispersed workgroups, and engage employees across silos. That is why 100,000 organizations use Yammer.

5 rules of social enterprise integration: Yammer setting the bartag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00e553df09e588340162fdba5555970d2011-12-12T15:19:00-08:002011-12-23T09:20:46-08:00From the Mule's Mouth– December 12, 2011 I’m a big fan of good integration in all shapes and forms. Quite often integration is done behind the scenes and if done well it remains unnoticed. I was thinking about social enterprise and the role of integration and decided to dig into some of the major players, namely Yammer and SocialText. SocialText realised early on that integration is hugely important in order to provide the best user experience and call it out directly in their vision. Read more at From the Mule's Mouth.Yammer

Practical Ways to Design Social Media Into Your Training Programstag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00e553df09e58834014e8bd78de5970d2011-08-08T16:11:00-07:002011-12-21T14:54:30-08:00Mindflash– August 8, 2011 There is a lot of talk about using social media in training or about social learning in the workplace, but frankly there is not a lot of action. There are many reasons for this inaction, but anyone who has worked in an organization knows there is an incredible amount of inertia keeping things the way they have always been done. Learning experience designers need to break free from the gravitational pull of “we have always done it this way” and try something new. There is no substitute for experimentation. We’ve written about this already in other posts and it’s more true than ever these days. Via Twitter I came across Yammer, one of the enterprise social networks that focus on internal communications. Yammer seems to have a huge potential for any company and it offers many advantages above email and instant messenger software. Two weeks ago we took the plunge and introduced a trial of the basic, free version in the workplace.

Yammer, which was originally founded in 2008, is a site set up with companies and its employees in mind. It was reported in September last year, that the service was being used by more than one million users and 80,000 companies globally. On a daily basis, here at OSM we tend to bring you social media news in relation to job hunting, promotion of company brands, increasing customer databases and so on, along with benefits to the emergency services, banks, pubs and restaurants and so on.

Yammer has a free version and can be adopted by any organization which wants to have an internal social networking site for its employees. Once a site for an organization is created, employees of an organization can join in using their official email id. What Yammer allows us to do is provide an environment to post what we want to share / ask with our fellow employees and in no time you get different perspectives / answers to your queries etc. Of course what you post is there for everyone to see, search and respond to. Users can also create a room or a group for a discussing specific interest area, etc.

If you said Facebook, you’d be wrong. Private enterprise-level social networks are the up-and-coming way for employees to share knowledge, collaborate, and keep projects moving forward. While Facebook and Twitter are sometimes seen as distractions in the workplace, platforms like Yammer, Present.ly, and Sales Force’s Chatter add value by limiting the social conversations to coworkers and focusing the power of social networking on solving organizational issues.

Yamming on with Yammer in Suncorptag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00e553df09e58834013487c4d3b5970c2010-09-27T15:31:30-07:002010-10-01T11:03:22-07:00Tigera – September 28, 2010 “I thought Yammer was quiet” was the response from one of my colleagues when he discovered I was on annual leave this week. In mid-2009, Suncorp began using Yammer to provide staff with a platform to collaborate in an informal and immediate manner. I was one of the early adopters of Yammer in Suncorp and currently ranked the most vocal contributor on the internal forum. Owing to the frequency of my daily ‘yams’ it is little wonder that my colleagues notice my absence from Yammer when I am on leave. Read more at Tigera.Yammer
